Sawgrass in the Community

Economic Benefits

The development of the Sawgrass facility can bring significant economic benefits to the area. Prospective benefits include sales tax and annual property tax revenue. Construction of the facility can also boost employment as Sawgrass intends to work to identify area contractors, vendors and suppliers to complete the project. Once operations start, Sawgrass would require a number of full-time employees.

Sawgrass is committed to employing a collaborative approach in establishing good relationships with landowners and the local community members who will be the neighbors of our facilities. Its environmental and engineering consultants have been in contact with landowners and a variety of local, state and federal agencies and will be providing additional public outreach.

Community Involvement

The parent companies of both of the joint venture partners in Sawgrass have significant business investments in their areas of operation and an extensive history of giving back to the communities they serve and the locations where their operations take place.

Nicor, Inc. has been part of the fabric of the communities in northern Illinois and the Chicago suburbs for five decades. Among the company's various philanthropic activities, Nicor employees actively support United Way through financial donations that are matched by the corporation. In addition, every spring, Nicor employees come out in numbers to support local non-profit agencies at its annual Volunteer Day and the March of Dimes’ “March for Babies.”

Samson is also a leading contributor to the United Way and makes significant contributions to numerous non-profits and other important agencies in which its employees take an active part as volunteers and leaders, including Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, American Heart Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Samson employees also take part each year in building a Habitat for Humanity home for a local family.
